1. Main Navigation (The Views)
The buttons at the top of the screen control the "Universe" of content you are looking at. Here is exactly how each one works:
- 🔥 Trending
What it shows: The most talked-about Movies and TV Shows on the internet right now.
Data Source: This pulls data from Trakt.tv (social engagement) combined with TMDB data.
Sorting: Items are sorted by Popularity (High to Low).
- 🏛️ History
What it shows: The entire archive of entertainment.
Timeframe: Everything released from the beginning of film history up until Today.
Logic:
• Movies: Released on or before today.
• TV Series: Premiered on or before today.
- 🍿 Showing Now
What it shows: Content that is currently fresh or in theaters.
Timeframe: Released in the last 2 months.
Logic:
• Movies: Released strictly between 2 months ago and Today.
• TV Series: Includes ANY show that aired a new episode in the last 2 months. Note: This includes old shows (like Grey's Anatomy) if they have a brand new season airing now.
- 📅 Upcoming
What it shows: The future. What is coming next.
Timeframe: From Tomorrow up to 5 years into the future.
Logic:
• Movies: Release date is in the future.
• TV Series: Includes ANY show with an episode scheduled for the future. Note: This ensures you see returning seasons of your favorite old shows, not just brand new series.
- ⏳ Time Capsule
What it shows: A specific year in history.
How to use: Enter a 4-digit year (e.g., "1999") in the input box.
Logic: Shows only content released between Jan 1st and Dec 31st of that specific year.
- 🏆 Oscar Winners
What it shows: A curated list of Best Picture winners.
Sorting: You can toggle between "Newest First" and "Oldest First".
2. Search Functionality
- 🔍 The Top Search Bar:
This is a "Broad Search". When you type here, the app searches across five different databases simultaneously:
• Movies (by title)
• TV Shows (by title)
• People (Actors & Directors)
• Companies (Production Studios)
• Keywords (Plot themes)
Important Note: When using the text search bar, "Heavy Filters" (like specific Actor/Director filters) are automatically disabled to ensure the search is fast and accurate.
3. Filters (The "Filter" Button)
You can narrow down any of the Main Views (History, Upcoming, etc.) using these powerful filters.
- 🎭 Genres: Select multiple genres (e.g., Action + Sci-Fi). The results must match ALL selected genres.
- 📅 Year Range: Filter by "From Year" and "To Year".
- ⭐ Rating: Filter by minimum score (e.g., 7+ stars). Note: This excludes items with less than 100 votes to ensure quality.
- ⏱️ Runtime: Filter by length (e.g., Short < 90m, Long > 120m). Available for Movies only.
- 👪 Age Rating (Certification):
• Family Friendly: (G, PG, PG-13, TV-Y, TV-14).
• Adult: (R, NC-17, TV-MA).
- 🎬 Specific People: You can filter by a specific Actor or Director.
- 🏭 Companies: Filter by production studio (e.g., A24, HBO).
- 🌍 Country: Filter by the country of origin.
4. How Results Load (The "Batch" System)
To keep the app fast, we don't load the entire internet at once.
- First Load: We fetch a large batch of data and display exactly 100 Results.
- Load More: When you click the "Load More" button at the bottom, we fetch the next batch and display exactly 50 More Results.
Why this number? This ensures that even if we remove duplicate entries (which happens often with API data), you are always guaranteed to see a full grid of posters.
5. My Lists
- ➕ My List: Your personal watchlist for things you want to see.
- ✅ Watched: A history of things you have already seen.
